For the first time in history, esports is also included in this year's ASEAN Para Games.
Spirits are high in the kingdom with less than 3 months left to the ASEAN Para Games that will be hosted by Cambodia for the very first time, one month after the SEA Games 2023. Cambodia is awarded the rights to host the largest para games in Southeast Asia with some potential games included such as swimming, volleyball, basketball and more.
For the first time in history, esports is also included in this year's ASEAN Para Games. Esports, short for electronic sports, is a form of competition using video games and usually takes the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions. Even though esports will be a demo sport for this year's games and will be excluded from the run for medals, it is undeniably a huge achievement for Cambodia to be the very first nation to incorporate esports into the ASEAN Para Games. It is also a milestone for esports players to finally be acknowledged and given an opportunity to prove themselves.
On 21 December 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Cambodia ASEAN Para Games Organizing Committee (CAMAPGOC) and Team Two Co., Ltd (Team Two), a leading digital and marketing agency in the kingdom; represented by HE Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of CAMSOC National Committee and Ms. Hak Sambo, Executive Director of Team Two. With this signing of MOU between the two parties, it marks the beginning of an exciting journey for athletes with disabilities in the esports sector. Team Two together with its esports arm, Next Level Entertainment, having a track record of organizing and developing local and regional esports events, will be a key partner to the CAMAPGOC in selecting and training players, coaches and advising for this sector of the games.
